James J. Tinneny VI

James J. Tinneny VI recently earned a graduate degree and the prestigious Saint Catherine Drexel Award at Cabrini College.  He also presented the keynote address for the 2006 convocation.  Jim is the great-great grandson of Yankee Pat Tinneny of Goladuff, County Fermanagh, Ireland and Philadelphia.  He is the grandson of James J.and Margaret “Peg” Tinneny.

Cabrini College, Radnor, PA

Graduate Student Earns Prestigious St. Catherine Medal for Scholarship and Service at Cabrini College 

Inspired by such prominent religious and philanthropic figures such as St. Frances Cabrini, St. Katherine Drexel and Danny Thomas, Cabrini College graduate student James Tinneny recently received the St. Catherine Medal at Cabrini’s 2006 Graduate and Professional Studies Convocation. 

Tinneny, who presented the keynote address at the graduate convocation, received the medal for extraordinary scholarship and service. He will receive a master’s degree organizational leadership during Commencement ceremonies at Cabrini College on Sunday, May 21. 

In his address, Tinneny spoke on how Thomas—before he became a nationally known entertainer—had used his last $7 to help found the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital; how St. Katherine Drexel used her wealth and fortune to spread the Catholic faith to the American West and its Native American peoples; and how St. Frances Cabrini brought hope to thousands of immigrants in New York city in the late 19^th century. He related these extraordinary acts to those honors graduate students at Cabrini, stating that, “Danny Thomas, St. Katherine Drexel and St. Frances Cabrini were ordinary people like you and me who did extraordinary things simply living their daily lives. We all have the power to do something extraordinary.”

Tinneny, of Berwyn, Pa., holds a master’s degree from Cabrini College, and a bachelor’s degree from Temple University. At Cabrini, Tinneny earned membership in the national graduate honor society Kappa Gamma Pi for excellence in leadership, scholarship, faith and service.
