Alastor is the grandson of Elizabeth Tinneny and Richard Griffith of Ellwood City, Pennsylvania; great-grandson of Donald and Elizabeth Bailer Tinneny of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; great-great-grandson of James and Gertrude Spence Tinneny of Philadelphia and great-great-great-grandson of Patrick “Yankee Pat” Tinneny of Goladuff, Newtownbutler, Co. Fermanagh, Northern Ireland and his wife Margaret Malloy.
