Auxiliary Territorial Service  

Myriam Tinneny

Myriam Tinneny, the daughter of William and Mary Ellen Tinneny of County Cavan, Ireland and London England volunteered for enlistment in the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS) during World War II. The Auxiliary Territorial Service was the women's branch of the British Army during the Second World War. It was formed on 9 September 1938, initially as a women's voluntary service, and existed until 1 February 1949, when it was merged into the Women's Royal Army Corps.

Myriam, top row 2nd from right end, completed her training as a member of ATS 4 Platoon, B Company, ATS Training Centre, Guildford, Surrey, England.

Myriam was the granddaughter of Robert and Bridget Rooney Tinneny of Belturbet, County Cavan; great-granddaughter of Francis and Anne Elliott Tinneny of Belturbet and great-great-granddaughter of Thomas Tinneny of Goladuff, Newtownbutler, County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland.
