James was the son of
Francis Tinneny of Belturbet, County Cavan and Margaret
Coleman of New Zealand. He was born in Roslea,
County Fermanagh. After serving in both the
Irish and British Army in World War II, he moved to New
Zealand where he met and married Mary Agnes Kenrick.
