Thomas Tierney was born in New York City and like his
brothers Francis and Robert he fought in the European
Theater of Operations in World War II. He entered the
United States Army Air Corps and served as an aircraft
maintenance specialist with the 456th Bomb
Group in Italy during the war and held the rank of
corporal.
Thomas was the son of Francis
and Catherine Reilly Tinneny of
Belturbet, County Cavan, Ireland and New York, the
grandson of Thomas
and Bridget Gilmartin Tinneny of
Belturbet and the great-grandson of Francis
and Anne Elliott Tinneny of
Belturbet, County Cavan, Ireland.
Note: The
surnames of Francis and Catherine Reilly Tinneny were
changed from Tinneny to Tierney sometime after arriving
in America. Their children and their descendents were
subsequently Tierney.
